Stallone cigars are one of those brands that have a well-sized portfolio, and each cigar in it has a place and complexity different than each other. Owner and Blender Tony Barrios crafted rich-tasting Nicaraguan tobacco with subtly and power not common in the industry. It is one thing to blend a cigar that has strength, it’s a whole other thing to have it well balanced. So many Maduros and Habanos in the Cigar industry bring a blast strength but are either flavorless or what I would call ‘one note.’ Stallone Cigars brings both to the table, and a good example of that would be found in the blue ribboned Stallone Alazan Habano.
Released in three vitolas; Robusto, Toro, and Torpedo box pressed, the Stallone Habano is one of six cigars in Tony’s Cowboy Series. The strength level is somewhere between the Connecticut and Corojo blends. However, encased in a light Nicaraguan Habano wrapper, the cigar perhaps looks a bit lighter than it is. Don’t be deceived, the Habano packs a punch up front. In fact, the Alazan is a great example of a cigar that transitions. At first light, there is a fair amount of sweetness and pepper, especially when you retro-hale. Notes of earth and cedar play with the pepper/sweetness balance. As the cigar continues, the spice seems to mellow and softer tones fill the palate. As Tony describes it, the Habano transitions into a more Cubanesque flavor profile. The spice lingers but definitely takes a back seat to nuttiness and the sweet cedar.
We have seen the Habano appear in our OGT CIgar Society. Released in the 7 year aged Stallone Vault Series, the aged version took on a butteriness and maturity that smoothes out the transitions beautifully, adding a layer on layer of fantastic flavor. If you enjoy the Nicaraguan experience and enjoy a good dynamic range, Stallone Cigar Alazan Habano is a great option. And as I had said, Tony’s portfolio is vast, but each has something amazing to offer!
