One of the most striking things about this cigar is its appearance. The gold foil stands out on the shelf or in the humidor, especially when it is laid out in a row. However, although Aganorsa Leaf has done a spectacular job on presentation, the true strength and striking element of the Signature Corojo is the flavor! The Aganorsa Leaf Signature Corojo is a high priming of their Nicaraguan Corojo tobacco. The rich sweetness really comes through in this blend.
However, the Corojo Signature is not always available year around. In fact, the type of leaves used in the filler dictates the frequency it is seen throughout the year. Under the oily Corojo wrapper, Aganorsa Leaf uses Medio Tiempo tobacco in the filler. What is Medio Tiempo? It’s a sparse few leaves that sometimes, not all plants have it, but sometimes grows on the top of the Tobacco plant. When it does, Tiempo is only a scarce amount. However, the flavor it imparts is invaluable to the blend. As Terence Reilly says, “Medio Tiempo is only two or three leaves that appear. It is very small and thick. It looks almost like alligator skin. Out of Twenty thousand bails we harvest each year, only about a hundred are Medio Tiempo. This leaf provides depth and structure to the blend as well as a taste like no other.”
The Aganorsa Leaf Signature is not the only cigar we see that uses Medio Tiempo. The newly released Guardian of the Farm Cerberus also boasts it in its filler. However, if you are a fan of the taste and flavor Aganorsa offers from the famed Corjo 99 from Nicaragua, the Signature Natural is a perfect showcase for it. It’s only released a few times a year. I wouldn’t say it is a limited cigar, however, it does make it special when it appears!
