There are few sizes in the cigar industry that accentuates the intense smoking experience like a petite corona. Many manufacturers have different definitions of the size, but 46 or 48 gauge seems to be the common ground. As we know, the unique vitola of the Lancero is a big favorite among ‘cigar heads’ due to the concentration of wrapper leaf to filler ratio. Among the cigar nerd size favorites, lies the traditional corona, typically a 6×46. With a more comfortable gauge in the hand, some believe you get the best of both worlds. Why mention these sizes? Take a corona, cut about two inches off, and you get the petite corona. A perfect example of that intense smoking experience in that unique size is the Killer Bee Petite Corona from Black Works Studio.
James Brown, Owner and blender of Black Label Trading and Black Works Studios, has created his own interpretation of Nicaraguan and Ecuadorian Maduro tobacco, it manifests in this little firecracker of a corona. A perfect example of his blending talent is in the Killer Bee. Black Works Studios has various expressions of the Maduro leaf, from Barrio Santo to Last Rites Maduro, even the Green Hornet Cigar. The Killer Bee flies alone with a mix of Nicaraguan binder and fillers. At the cap, a twist of Connecticut spirals through the head of the cigar, adding a touch of creamy sweetness. Myriad flavors fill the palate with dark cocoa, earth, espresso powder, white pepper, nuttiness, and lingering sweetness. If you haven’t had the opportunity to try the Killer Bee, and you are a fan of medium plus Maduro, it may be time to pull the trigger.
Soon to be released at the 2022 PCA trade show is a show exclusive that extends the Killer Bee Cigar line! More info to come. However, what I can say, is the new extension features a Mexican San Andres wrapper in a 5.5×46 Belicoso. Does that make it a Belicoso Corona?
